This issue analyzes North Korea’s slow move towards a market economy including the county’s burgeoning trade in denim. According to the report, the “hottest denim on the market” could be coming from North Korea. DPRK Business Monthly also parses North Korean leader Kim Jong-il’s praise for China’s economic achievements, analyzes an Irish NGO’s work in the country, and takes a look at several industries including agro-forestry.

The report highlights booming inter-Korean trade, the allowance of medical aid to the North by the South Korean government, domestic concerns like a trade fair in Kimchaek City and the development of an anti-cancer drug by the Tumor Institute under the Academy of Science, and the recently launched DPRK pavilion web site, which features information and video clips of North Korea’s pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai Expo.

DPRK Business Monthly is produced by North Korea expert Paul White.
